Getting Started with Your Submission

Are you ready to dive into the process? Hold on tight, as you're about to learn something valuable while enjoying the ride! Begin by navigating to the upper right corner of your homepage, where you’ll find two icons next to your profile picture:

Step 1: Initiate Your Writing To get started, click the pen icon to open a new writing window:

Step 2: Create Your Headline Your headline is crucial as it’s the first thing readers will notice. Click on the space marked "Title" and type your captivating headline. Once you hit RETURN/ENTER, your cursor will move to the next line.

Step 3: Add a Subheading A subhead enhances the appeal of your article. If your word count isn’t a concern, make sure to craft an engaging subheading. Click the plus icon next to "Tell your story..." and type your subhead. For example, “The subhead creates more intrigue” should be capitalized only at the start.

Highlight your subheading, and click the smaller "T" to format it correctly.

Step 4: Include a Kicker (Optional) This additional element provides more context about your article. Click before the first letter of your headline and hit RETURN to create a new line above it. Type your kicker in all caps.

Step 5: Add Visual Content Visuals are key for capturing attention. Medium simplifies this process by allowing you to source images from Unsplash. Ensure the URL remains linked to credit the creator.

After entering your subheading, click the plus icon again to add an image:

Choose to upload an image from your computer or select one from Unsplash.

Search for an image, and remember to click to view more options if needed.

When you select an image, it will automatically include the credit information. Adjust the size as desired using the provided icons.

Step 6: Embed a Video To include a video, click on the video icon. Copy the URL from YouTube and paste it into Medium. Press RETURN, and your video will appear.

Step 7: Submit to a Publication Once your article is ready, click the three dots next to the green "Publish" button to submit it to a publication. Make sure to read their submission guidelines beforehand.

Select your desired publication and click "Submit."

Step 8: Add Topic Tags Finally, include relevant tags to categorize your piece. Choose up to five, ensuring they align with your content.

Now, you’re all set to submit your work! Enjoy the process, and remember to be considerate to both editors and fellow writers.
